Description

Hardback. 269pp. An early edition of a fairy tale, perhaps for adults, by A. A. Milne. Colour frontis and many black and white illustrations and decorations by Charles Robinson. Witty and written in accessible English as Milne asks in the new preface, “For whom, then, is the book intended? That is the trouble. Unless I can say, "For those, young or old, who like the things which I like," I find it difficult to answer.” He goes onto tentatively conclude, “I shall say boldly that this is a story for grown-ups,” yet it is clear this only partly true. Penguin Books certainly thought so as they published it under the children’s Puffin imprint in the 1960s. Blue cloth with gilt and dark blue illustration to the front and gilt decorations and navy illustration to spine.
